China’s investments in highways and waterways to rise 5.56% in 2013

China's Ministry of Transport has indicated that the country's fixed asset investments in its roads and waterways in 2013 are expected to reach RMB 1.53 trillion ($250.8 billion), up 5.56 percent year on year. In the current year, 8,260 km of new highways have been added to the national network. Meanwhile, during the year 28,600 km of national and provincial roads were constructed or upgraded, as well as 210,000 km of rural roads. In addition, 110 berths for 10,000 mt ships will be completed this year, while a total of 289 km of waterways will have been built or upgraded.
