China’s coke output up 2.6 percent in January-May

In the January-May period this year, China’s coke output reached 203.13 million mt, up 2.6 percent year on year, as announced by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on June 15.  

In the first five months this year, China’s raw coal output amounted to 1.91 billion mt, rising by 4.8 percent year on year, unchanged from the increase rate recorded in the January-April period. In the January-May period, China imported 180 million mt of coal, up 89.6 percent year on year.  

In May this year, China imported 39.58 million mt of coal, up 92.6 percent year on year, 19.9 percentage points faster compared to the increase recorded in April.   

In May alone, China’s coke and raw coal outputs totaled 41.5 million mt and 390 million mt, up 2.3 percent and 4.2 percent year on year, respectively.
