China to step up work on water conservation projects in Tibet

China will invest RMB 11.616 billion ($1.818 billion) to accelerate construction of water conservation projects in the Tibet autonomous region in China's 12th five-year plan period (2011-15), according to Chinese media sources.

According to the Tibet offices of China's Ministry of Water Resources, 16 water conservation projects will be carried out in Tibet during the 12th five-year plan period. These projects are expected to fully resolve the water supply problems of farmers and herdsmen in the region.
