The Turkish Undersecretariat of the Prime Ministry for Foreign Trade (DTM) has issued the 2008 import regime effective as of January 1, 2008.
According to the press release issued by the DTM, the subject regime has been prepared in line with the needs of the agriculture and industry sectors, pursuant to certain agreements in which Turkey participates, and in accordance with the targets in the annual programs.
In the 2008 import regime, where some changes to the trade regulations with respect to several industries have been made, the most prominent change with regard to iron and steel products falling under tariff codes 72 and 73 is the revision of the import duties for hot rolled and cold rolled duties as five percent and six percent, respectively. In the previous regime, if the duty collected was below €29 for flats (both hot rolled and cold rolled products), then a minimum duty of €29 per ton was applied. With the new regime, the minimum duty regulation has been removed.
