Canadian iron ore shipments rise in December, full-year 2017

According to Natural Resources Canada, shipments of iron ore in December totaled 4,248,875 mt, a 7.8 percent increase from November and a 26.4 percent decrease from December 2016. Of that total, 330,418 mt was shipped to Canadian customers, while 3,918,457 mt was exported.

Iron ore shipments for the full-year 2017 totaled 43,809,462 mt, up 3.0 percent from the 42,527,626 mt shipped during the full-year 2016. Of the 2017 shipment total, 4,078,241 mt was sent to Canadian customers and 39,731,222 mt was exported.

Canadian iron ore stocks at the end of December totaled 2,462,507 mt, down 32.3 percent from November and down 25.6 percent from December 2016.
