Calgary, Alberta-based Smart Ventures Inc. announced Monday that it plans to establish a number of scrap to rolled products production steel plants with its Smart Steel Process technology worldwide. Smart Ventures said in a press release that smart-mills using the company's trademarked Smart Steel technology will produce 150,000 metric tons per year of rolled products from scrap steel.

Smart Ventures' manufacturing process conserves heat and energy by reducing the distance travelled by the steel between stages of manufacture and by automating these stages. The "smart-mill" build time is estimated at 18-20 months.
