Brazil’s steel exports total 987,100 mt in November

According to data provided by the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr), the country's domestic steel sales totaled 1.6 million metric tons in November, down 1.3 percent from the same month last year, while sales in the first eleven months totaled 19.15 million metric tons, increasing by 32.1 percent compared to the same period last year.
 
Exports of steel products in November amounted to 987,100 metric tons - up 48.1 percent, worth US$645.6 million - up 65.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Exports in the January-November period of this year totaled 7.9 million mt, worth US$5.03 billion, dropping 1.1 percent in volume and increasing 15.9 percent in value compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
 
Meanwhile, the country's steel import volume in November totaled 453,800 metric tons, worth US$494.8 million, up 93.8 percent and 83.9 percent respectively. In the first 11 months of the year, Brazilian steel imports totaled 5.47 million metric tons with a value of US$5 billion, representing 158.5 percent and 92.8 percent increases from the same period last year, respectively.
