Brazilian state-owned energy company Petrobras has announced that it has signed an agreement with the domestic steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) and the latter’s subsidiary CSN Inova Soluções SA to collaborate on decarbonization projects.

Accordingly, the partners aim to build a low-carbon hydrogen plant in Paraná, supporting both Petrobras and CSN’s decarbonization of their operations and products. Low-carbon hydrogen, which can be obtained via the electrolysis method using clean electricity, can be utilized as a fuel source and in several industrial processes.

As SteelOrbis reported previously, in September this year Petrobras had joined forces with domestic steelmaker Gerdau to develop low-carbon solutions.
