Brazil’s crude steel output up 3.9 percent in October

According to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr), Brazilian crude steel production in October this year amounted to 3.04 million metric tons, with a 3.9 percent increase year on year. In the same month, Brazilian rolled steel output increased by 8.7 percent to 2.1 million metric tons compared to the same month of 2016. 

Meanwhile, Brazilian steelmakers produced 28.51 million metric tons of crude steel in the January-October period of this year, up 8.5 percent year on year. Brazil's rolled steel product output totaled 18.66 million mt in the given period, up 5.2 percent year on year. 

Brazilian domestic steel sales increased by 6.8 percent year on year in October to 1.46 million metric tons, while domestic sales in the first ten months of this year totaled 14.05 million metric tons, increasing by 0.9 percent year on year.

Brazil's exports of steel products in October amounted to 1.56 million metric tons, rising by 68.1 percent, with a value of $814 million, up 99 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Steel product exports in the January-October period of this year totaled 12.56 million mt, worth $6.42 billion, with an increase of 14.3 percent in volume and a rise of 41.6 percent in value compared to the same period of last year.

Meanwhile, the country's steel import volume in October this year amounted to 186,000 metric tons, decreasing 34 percent, with a value of $186 million, up 2.8 percent, both year on year. Brazil’s total steel imports in the first ten months of this year came to 2.01 million metric tons, representing a 39.1 percent increase in volume year on year, while the value of these imports in the given period totaled $1.88 billion, rising by 38.9 percent year on year.
