Industrial activity in Brazil has achieved positive results in terms of the number of working hours in production activities, the amount of salaries paid and the level of employment during January 2023, when compared to January 2022, according to the sector association CNI.

On yearly basis, the sector started 2023 in levels higher than in January 2022, in terms of working hours, the volume of salaries and average salary received by the worker.

Comparing January 2023 to the previous month, the volume of sales declined by 0.9 percent, the number of hours worked increased by 0.5 percent, the level of employment increased by 0.5 percent, the volume of salaries paid increased by 1.5 percent and the average salary paid declined by 0.3 percent.

The utilization rate of the production capacity reached 79.7 percent in January, the same as in December 2022, against 80.9 percent in January 2022.

However, on a monthly comparative basis, the amount of sales declined for the fifth consecutive month in January, reflecting the period of uncertainties surrounding the last months of 2022. The average salary paid by the sector also declined in January, while the utilization rate of the production capacity was stable in relation to December 2022.
