Borcelik to increase capacity to 1.6 million mts

The Turkish steel producer Borcelik Celik Sanayii Ticaret A.S. has inked a contract with Siemens Metals Technologies to increase the capacity of its cold rolling and galvanizing mill complex located at Gemlik. In line with the contract, Siemens will supply a new single-strand CR mill with a rolling capacity of 450,000 mts and a galvanizing line with a processing capacity of 350,000 mts and will also modernize the existing pickle line. Accordingly, cold rolled capacity will increase to 700,000 metric tons and HDG capacity will increase to 900,000 metric tons. With the start-up of the new facilities and the upgrading of the pickling line, which are scheduled to be completed by October 2008, Borcelik's processing capacity will increase from the existing 1 million metric tons to 1,600,000 metric tons. The contract is worth around Euro 42 million.
