Belarus-based Byelorussian Steel Works (BMZ) will start large-scale modernization of its steelmaking furnace No. 1 in October this year, according to a company statement.

The modernization will allow an increase of the capacity of the furnace up to 1 million mt per year, a decrease of specific consumption of electric energy, a reduction of melting times, and improved quality of products.

Last month, the company has started another investment project for the construction of a new rolling mill, with commissioning planned for the end of 2014.
