BlueScope Steel builds new flat product plant in Vietnam

Major Australian steel producer BlueScope Steel (former BHP Steel) today started building a new flat steel metallic coating and painting facility in Ba Ria Vung Tau, southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. The construction of this plant which is in line with company's plans to expand its downstream value added products business, especially in Asia, will cost Australian$160 million (around $119 million). The plant will have a production capacity of 125'000 tons of metallic coated and 50'000 tons of painted flat steel product per year. Commencement of the production is expected in early 2006.
