Local news reported Friday that the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) lifted the stay on Big River Steel’s construction, which is waiting on approval of an air permit. While this does not exactly mean that the air permit for the mill has been approved, it does mean that the company can begin preliminary construction measures on the $1.1 billion facility such as conducting soil tests.
The next hearing involving the air permit is scheduled for February 18.
