SteelOrbis Shanghai Benxi-Posco successfully completed the trial operation of its CR pickling line. The CR pickling line is the key point of Liaoning province based Benxi Steel's cold rolled production project carried out in cooperation with South Korean POSCO. It is also one of the major projects renewing the old industrial base in northeastern China. The project started in July 2004 with $660 million (RMB 5.5 billion) total investment. The production line will mainly produce auto sheet and high grade household appliance sheet with a total production capacity of 1.97 million metric tons per annum. The products will be sold to China and South Korea. Sources report that Benxi-Posco CR production line will be completed by July 2006. Then, it will be the largest production base for auto sheet and high grade appliance sheet in northeastern China.
