Italian plantmaker Danieli Technologies has announced that Chinese steelmaker Baosteel has reached a significant milestone with its Fastarc Zerobucket electric arc furnace in Shanghai, achieving record production levels and improved operational efficiency.
According to the plantmaker, the recognition follows the achievement of the challenge target set in January 2026, with monthly output exceeding 100,000 mt of liquid steel and operating expenditure reduced by around 200 RMB/mt. The new meltshop was supplied by Danieli in 2023 and has recently reached 31 heats per day, setting a new 10-year record. The project required complex coordination because of the constraints of the existing plant structure, a tight execution schedule, and overlapping operations across several production areas.
Following the installation phase, the furnace entered operation and production performance was progressively optimized with a charge mix based on scrap in the range of 60-100 percent and hot metal in the range of 0-40 percent. According to Danieli, energy consumption was significantly reduced, while daily and weekly production targets were steadily achieved.
