Australian government approves coke project
Australia's government approved a A$1 billion ($780 million) project to produce high quality coke for export to steel plants in Asia, Europe and the US. The project, which will be run jointly by Queensland Coke and Energy and Stanwell Corp, involves construction of a large plant that will produce high quality coke for blast furnaces in the steel industry. Officials indicated that the coke will be taken by rail to the deepwater port at Gladstone for export to Asian, European and American markets. The plant will have an initial capacity of up to 1.6 million tons of coke per year, with the possibility of an increase to 3.2 million tons.Australian government approves coke project
