The Russian steel producer Ashinskiy Metallurgical Works (Ashinskiy) has finished the reconstruction of its flat rolling shop No. 3, which will allow it to increase its output of super-thin electrical steel strip (of up to 50 micrometers in thickness) by 72 percent  from 893 mt in 2010 to 1,533 mt in 2011. The investment project, which cost more than Ruble 70 million (about $2.48 million), was started in October 2010.

In 2010, Ashinskiy signed three-year contracts for the supply of super-thin electrical strip for the production of transformer cores and other electrical equipment. More than 85 percent of this production will be exported to France, Italy, US, China, Israel and Germany. The share of sales in the Russian domestic market will amount to almost 15 percent.
