Australia-based mining and materials company Arrium Limited has announced that it has shipped the first iron ore from its South Iron operations located in South Australia through its newly expanded Whyalla Port, in line with its plan to double iron ore sales to 12 million mt per year by next July or August.
According to Arrium, the first iron ore shipment from the Southern Iron operations will help commission the expanded port facilities before sales are ramped up through the first half of 2013 as other parts of the supply chain and infrastructure come into operation.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, in October this year Arrium made its first iron ore sale via rail from its Southern Iron operations.
