ArcelorMittal USA steelworkers threaten strike amid ongoing talks

On Wednesday, there were indications that steelworkers at all ArcelorMittal USA plants could stage a protest following the expiration of a union contract on September 1. In a letter to United SteelWorkers (USW) members at ArcelorMittal's mill, David McCall, chairman of the USW negotiating committee, said in a letter to about 10,000 USW members writing: "With US Steel reaching a tentative agreement over the weekend, why does ArcelorMittal continue to drag its feet?"

Numerous reports Wednesday indicated that steelworkers were planning "corporate-wide mobilizations," including practice and informational pickets. The picketers Wednesday indicated that for now, the "mobilization" is not a strike, but a show of "solidarity" for unionized workers at the mills.
