In line with an agreement reached with the Kazakh government, the world's largest steel producer ArcelorMittal has accepted to restart its project for the construction of a new four million mt capacity steel mill in Temirtau in the Karaganda region of Kazakhstan, where it operates its subsidiary ArcelorMittal Temirtau, the Interfax-Kazakhstan news agency has reported citing Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov.
Accordingly, following ArcelorMittal's agreement in principle to restart the project, the government of Kazakhstan has instructed the departments in charge to ensure the implementation of the project for the expansion of ArcelorMittal Temirtau's capacities.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, the project for the construction of a new steel mill got underway in October 2008; however, due to the financial crisis, it was suspended in August this year. The new mill is expected to boost the company's annual production capacity to ten million mt.
