ArcelorMittal to invest in safety at Kazakh mines

The world's largest steelmaker ArcelorMittal has announced its plans to invest about $263 million in 2008 to improve safety at the mines of its Kazakhstan-based subsidiary ArcelorMittal Temirtau.

The head of ArcelorMittal Temirtau, Mr. Satish Taparia, stated that $63 milllion has been already invested in the improvement of safety measures as a part of a five-year plan. Mr. Satish added that installation of better ventilation systems and methane gas detectors are the priority of this investment project.
