ArcelorMittal, the world's largest steelmaker, announced on Thursday that it has started a legal action against U.S. Steel Canada Inc. and Cleveland-Cliffs to make them honor their commitment to sell their stakes in Canada's Wabush Mines to ArcelorMittal Dofasco.

ArcelorMittal Dofasco President Juergen Schachler said that ArcelorMittal just wanted to provide some certainty for employees at Wabush, for the local community and government stakeholders.

On March 4, 2008 U.S. Steel Canada and Cleveland-Cliffs issued press releases dismissing any binding legal obligations with respect to the sale.
