ArcelorMittal slab producer in Brazil operates again at full pace

For the second consecutive year, ArcelorMittal Pecem, the slab producer located in the Brazilian northeastern state of Ceará, produced 3.0 million mt of slabs in 2024, equivalent to its nameplate capacity.

According to Pecem CEO, Erick Torres, the plant currently produces 9.5 percent of the Brazilian crude steel and 22.0 percent of the ArcelorMittal production in the country.

Torres added that the plant is certified to produce High Added Value (HAV) steel grades, with 281 new steel grades in produced in 2024, of which 40 are HAV grades.

Its production is certified for use in shipbuilding, oil & gas, automotive, and civil construction sectors.

In 2024, the ratio of slabs exports from Pecem, in relation to its domestic sales, reached 76 percent against 62 percent in 2023.

The main destination of the Pecem exports in 2024 was the US, followed by Mexico.
