On May 3, global steel giant ArcelorMittal restarted operations at the electric steel and laminating sections of its steel plant at Hunedoara in Romania, according to local media reports. The company has taken all preventive measures at the plant which employs around 640 people.

The operations were suspended on April 1, due to both the risk posed by the coronavirus and weak demand.

Meanwhile, the local trade union has said that the money received from the government for technical unemployment, representing 75 percent of employees’ wages, was insufficient and so the company’s management will negotiate with the trade union to compensate workers for the period during which they were unable to work.
