Global steel giant ArcelorMittal has announced that it is taking steps to reduce production at its European operations to ensure that the wellbeing of its employees is maintained and that production is aligned with demand. The company did not specify which plants are slowing down operations.

“We will continue to monitor the evolution of the coronavirus in each of our operating markets and take decisions accordingly to ensure the wellbeing of our employees and our ability to meet customer demand,” the company said.

ArcelorMittal has already reduced production at its Taranto plant in Italy. In line with the containment measure at the Taranto plant, less than 50 percent of the workforce is on duty, while the possibility of a total shutdown is not ruled out.
