ArcelorMittal announced Monday that it plans to invest $50 million in its Monessen, Pennsylvania coke plant in order to reopen the facility. The investment will be used to modernize pollution-control equipment and will make the plant both safer and more competitive.

Once the company receives the necessary permits it can begin work on the project which is anticipated to create approximately 113 jobs. Production at the coke plant is expected to begin in May 2014. The plant has been idled since May 2009, less than a year after ArcelorMittal purchased the facility.
