Germany-based plantmaker SMS Meer has announced that ArcelorMittal Hamburg GmbH, German division of steel giant ArcelorMittal, has place an order for the modernization of a two-strand wire rod mill. The annual capacity of the mill amounts to 900,000 mt.
With this revamp ArcelorMittal aims to improve the product quality. The new stands to be provided by SMS Meer will enable higher rolling forces in the future.
ArcelorMittal will also replace the last two mill stands where a two-strand rolling operation is taking place. SMS Meer will convert this section into two single-strand rolling lines.
