After completing the expansion of the second line of the Acid Recovery Unit of its galvanizing plant Vega do Sul, located in the southern state of Santa Catarina, the Brazilian arm of ArcelorMittal has concluded an important part of its plan to increase the galvanizing capacity of the plant.
With total investments estimated at $350 million, the project will increase the capacity of the plant from current 1.6 million mt per year to 2.2 million mt per year, with conclusion expected for the end of this year.
In addition to the second line of the Acid Recovery Unit, the expansion includes a new galvanizing and annealing continuous lines.
According to the company, the recovery of the acids allows for an operation more sustainable in relation to the environment, with products that reinforce its presence in the automotive industry, increasing the mix of products with more value added, paving the way for reaching different markets.
