Arcelor to invest €15 mln in Czech production facility

Arcelor, the world's largest steel producer, is planning to invest €15 million to build a production facility in Usti nad Labem in northern Czech Republic. The company will make the investment through its subsidiary Matthey, which specializes in steel tubes for automobile exhausts. Through this investment Arcelor hopes to strengthen its presence in Central and Eastern Europe. According to market sources, trial operations are expected to begin at the end of 2004, while the facility is expected to be fully operational by the first half of 2005.
