Angola-based Companhia Siderúrgica do Cuchi (CSC) has officially inaugurated the country’s first pig iron mill, according to media reports.

The project’s first phase worth $60 million has been completed and the plant currently has an annual production capacity of 96,000 mt.

Production at one of the planned total of four blast furnaces started in May this year and more than 10,000 mt of pig iron has been produced in the four months since then. Some of the products are at Port of Namibe and are to be exported to the US and some countries in Asia and Europe.

The company plans to invest $260 million in the second half of the next year for the construction of three more blast furnaces and other infrastructure. Once the second phase of the project is completed, the mill will have an annual production capacity of 516,000 mt of pig iron from 2025.
