Anglo American expects to advance phase 3 of its Minas-Rio iron ore project located in the state of Minas Gerais after obtaining an operating license to be issued by H2 2018.
The company said this week it will hold public hearings for the Minas-Rio iron ore project in Brazil. The project comprises an open pit mine, a beneficiation plant producing high-grade pellet feed, and a 529-km-long (328-mile-long) pellet feed transporting pipeline connecting different cities in the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.
After the public hearings, analysis of the environmental licensing for Minas-Rio should advance towards phase 3. By then, the Minas Gerais state environmental authority, Semad, will issue a technical report. Meanwhile, the Minas Gerais state technical chamber of mining activities (CMI) is expected to vote and approve the project.
Once the provisional and installation licenses are issued, the phase 3 of the project will start. During that phase, Anglo’s Minas-Rio mine us expected to produce 26.5 million mt of iron ore per year.
Anglo American expects to invest about BRL 1 billion ($318.4 million) in the project.
