Anglo American expects to produce close to 22 million mt of iron ore in Brazil this year, a company executive said. According to a media report by IstoE, the company is concluding works at its iron ore waste dam in the city of Conceição do Mato Dentro, in Minas Gerais state, although it has not yet obtained an operating license for the structure.
Anglo American said it produced 10.8 million mt of iron ore in the first half (H1) of 2019, and expects to produce a similar amount in H2, reaching a production level close to 22 million mt.
Anglo did not disclose an exact timeline for its Minas-Rio project to reach its full 26.5 million mt/year iron ore capacity, but the company expects to achieve the goal “rapidly.”
The Minas-Rio project includes a 529-km-long (328-mile-long) pellet feed-transporting slurry pipeline. Anglo halted operations and iron ore sales in 2018 at Minas-Rio, following two bursts, on March 12, 2018, and March 29, 2018.
