Anglo American has named Wilfred Bruijn as the company’s CEO for Brazil, the company said this week. Bruijn, who will assume the role effectively on March 1, 2019, will replace former Anglo American CEO for Brazil, Ruben Fernandes, who will take on a CEO position in the company’s global base metals business, also in March. Fernandes will also join the group’s management committee.

Bruijn has over 25 years of experience in the mining industry. He was CEO at Mineração Usiminas (MUSA), the mining arm of Brazilian flats steelmaker Usiminas. MUSA is a joint venture between Usiminas and Sumitomo.

“Ruben Fernandes has led our iron ore and nickel interests in Brazil with great commitment and compassion,” Anglo American said in a statement.

Fernandes will replace Duncan Wanblad as the group’s base metals CEO. Wanblad will focus solely on his role as group director of strategy and business development.
