Al-Ittefaq considers to construct direct reduced iron plant
Saudi Arabian steel company Al-Ittefaq considers to construct a direct reduced iron plant in
Bahrain. The project and technical assistance details are part of the on-going negotiations.
Furthermore, by constructing the direct reduced iron plant Ittefag can supply feed to new melt shop which is currently under
construction at its plant in Dammam. The first phase of the plant's annual capacity will be 300'000 tons then it will increased to 500'000 tons.
In addition, Al-Ittefaq have discussed the purchasing of former American Iron Reduction plant located in Convent, Louisiana with Bank of America.
Midrex direct reduced iron plant which is owned by the consortium banks, has an annual capacity of 1.2 million tons and has been idle for nearly three years since its parent companies went under bankruptcy. The banks will hold an auction next month in order to have offer from other possible buyers.
