AK raises May prices, lowers April surcharges

AK Steel announced Thursday that it will raise base prices for its carbon steel products in May. Base prices for carbon steel products will go up by $30 /nt ($33 /mt or $1.50 cwt.) for orders placed for shipment May 1 and onward. The company has also reported it will lower its surcharges for flat rolled and electrical steel orders in April. The surcharge for orders placed for shipment April 1 and onward for flat rolled products will be $25 /nt ($28 /mt or $1.25 cwt.) less than the March surcharge, while the surcharge for electrical steel products will drop $75 /nt ($83 /mt or $3.75 cwt.) from the March surcharge. AK has yet to determine its May surcharge.
