Ajaokuta Steel becomes operational next week

Indian steel producer Ispat Industries has announced that Nigeria-based Ajaokuta Steel Company will be operational next week. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, trial-running of the plant was done on September 28-29, 2004. Ajaokuta Steel will produce 300'000 tons of steel in the initial stage. However the annual production at the plant is planned to be increased to 1.5 million tons. Ispat is stated to have imported 15'000 tons of billets for Ajaokuta's initial run.
