Mexican integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) said this week it will extend maintenance at a blast oxygen furnace by a week following a blast on May 12, the company said in a document filing at the nation’s stock exchange, Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (BMV).

AHMSA said its No. 2 blast oxygen suffered “minor damages,” which “do not affect the equipment’s operation.”

AHMSA said inspectors from the nation’s Labor Secretariat are yet to determine the causes of the incident, which the company attributed to a water leak in its No. 1 BOF converter located at its steelworks No. 2, resulting in liquid steel spilling onto four workers.
