Mexican integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) said it has reached an agreement with South Korea-based Paco Engineering to build and operate a coated/galvanized sheet mill in Monclova to meet the demands of the local civil construction and domestic appliances industries, the steelmaker said.
AHMSA said the new plant, the first of its kind in Mexico, will require an investment of MXN 400 million ($20.9 million), and it will operate out of AHMSA’s No. 1 steel mill with a 90,000 mt/year capacity of commercial grade steel sheet.
AHMSA did not disclose the terms of the partnership, nor if Paco would have a stake in the new plant. The agreement was signed with Paco Engineering in the South Korean company’s office in Seoul.
