Mexico’s integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) said this week it completed maintenance at its No. 2 steel mill.

The steelmaker said maintenance works were successfully completed at the company’s main operative units within its No. 2 mill, including blast furnace No. 5, BOF 2, a continuous caster unit, power plant No. 5 and a hot rolling mill.

The company invested a total of MXN 400 million ($21.6 million) between February and March to complete the maintenance, so it could keep equipment ready for production. Initially, when it commenced maintenance works, it invested MXN 150 million ($7.9 million). The MXN 400 million figure includes the initial MXN 150 million needed to repair equipment, plus another MXN 250-260 million to rehabilitate a hot rolling mill.

AHMSA said the main project at the No. 2 mill was the installation of new parts on the strip line.
