Russia-based mining and steel company Mechel announced on June 14 that an accident occurred at the electric furnace No. 2 at its Southern Urals Nickel Plant on June 12, causing the destruction of the furnace's roof.

Due to the outage at furnace No. 2, the plant has launched its reserve furnace No. 3. Repairs at the furnace No. 2 will take about 10 days to complete and are estimated to cost approximately Ruble 700,000 (about $25,000).

The accident will not impact the plant's plans for production in June and for this year as a whole.
