According to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in May this year motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 61,609 units, decreasing by 5.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, due to the base effect arising from the higher sales volume boosted by tax reduction measures in the year-ago period, and up 7.89 percent month on month, as a result of the revival in demand due to intensive sales campaigns by carmakers enjoying favorable currency exchange rates and relatively increased credit availability.

In the month in question, the country's passenger car sales amounted to 40,467 units, regressing by 8.4 percent year on year and up by 10.72 percent month on month.

In May, Turkey's motor vehicle exports totaled 66,953 units, rising by 30.2 percent year on year and up 10.06 percent over April. The revenue generated by motor vehicle exports surged by 8.8 percent, compared to May 2009, to $1.26 billion. In the given month, Turkey imported 35,319 motor vehicles, which is two percent higher compared to May 2009.
