According to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in September this year motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 83,403 units, declining by 20.2 percent as compared to the same month of the previous year, due to the increased demand in September 2009 which was the last month for which the Turkish government's temporary car sales tax cut was effective.
In September, Turkey's passenger car sales amounted to 42,477 units, dropping by 18.6 percent year on year and up by 0.6 percent compared to August this year.
In the given month, Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 64,333 units, rising by eight percent, while its passenger car exports amounted to 36,899 units, up by 1.3 percent, both on year-on-year basis. The revenue for these exports sales totaled $1.33 billion for total motor vehicle exports, down 5.8 percent, including the revenue from passenger car exports at $513.11 million, down 26.2 percent, both compared to the same month last year.
In September this year, Turkey's motor vehicle imports decreased by 11.2 percent year on year, while its passenger car imports fell by 15.6 percent, totaling 38,411 units and 28,972 units respectively.
In the ninth month of 2010, Turkey's total motor vehicle output came to 96,453 units - up 11.8 percent, including the passenger car output which amounted to 54,046 units - up 7.4 percent, and commercial vehicle production at 42,407 units - up 18 percent, all compared to September 2009.
