According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in March this year new motor vehicle registrations in Turkey amounted to 56,380 units, increasing by 29.3 percent month on month and down 4.5 percent year on year.

New passenger car registrations in March totaled 28,548 units, rising by 24.4 percent as compared to the previous month and down 20.5 percent year on year. Passenger cars accounted for 50.6 percent of total registrations. Small truck registrations, meanwhile, increased by 26 percent month on month and were down 19.9 percent year on year, amounting to 13,531 units. Small truck registrations constituted 15.1 percent of total registrations.

The year-on-year decrease rates are considered to be the result of the rise in demand in 2009, due to the tax reduction measures effective in the March-September period last year.
