Sources inform SteelOrbis that Tokyo Steel has increased domestic scrap buying prices to its various mills between December 12 and December 13. Due to currency fluctuations, the average price on December 5 and 12 remained at $315/mt delivered to customer, but with the most recent increases, the average price increased $6/mt and is now at $321/mt delivered to customer. Purchases at the Tahara mill were at JPY 37,000/mt delivered, which translates to $329/mt on the top end, while purchases at the Okayama mill were at JPY 35,500/mt delivered, translating to $315/mt on the lower end.

The scrap price increases by Tokyo Steel are expected to place upward pressure on other domestic Japanese mill buy prices as well as increase prices to exporters.
