In the Turkish domestic pig iron market, local producer Kardemir kept its prices unchanged in its latest price list published on March 9. Accordingly, Kardemir's price of H1 pig iron still stands at $565/mt plus VAT, its H2 price is at $555/mt plus VAT, while its price of C1 pig iron stands at $530/mt plus VAT, and its price for C2 pig iron is at $520/mt plus VAT.
Ukrainian pig iron suppliers' offers to the Turkish market are standing at $490/mt CFR for early May shipments, though the price idea of Turkish buyers is below this price level. Market players think that this price level may see some softening in the coming days if buyers place firm bids. Turkish mills had concluded some pig iron bookings from Ukraine two weeks ago at $475-480/mt CFR.
In the US flat steel market, sliding demand and prices have been exerting downward pressure on pig iron sales prices, according to market sources. However, the price increase announcements made by US flat steel mills since last Wednesday have now reduced the likelihood of a softening in pig iron prices.
On the other hand, Brazilian pig iron export offers are currently standing at $470-475/mt FOB. However, since the price idea of US buyers does not exceed $480/mt CFR, they are currently adopting a wait-and-see stance.
