Turkish ship scrap market signals a trend change

Today, February 11, one Izmir-based mill has raised its ship scrap purchase quotations by $5/mt as compared to Tuesday, February 9, signaling a trend change in the market after a long period of decreases. The decreasing trend of ship scrap prices had started on January 15 in line with the pessimistic sentiment seen in the deep sea scrap segment and resulted in a $83-93/mt fall in total, depending on the steelmaker. As of today, other producers in the region have kept their ship scrap purchase quotations stable. Accordingly, the general range of ship scrap purchase quotations in Turkey has remained unchanged at $370-375/mt.
