Turkish mills raise ship scrap purchase prices amid costlier imports

Turkish steel mills based in the Izmir region have increased their ship scrap purchase prices by $2-8/mt over the previous levels, following the recent price rise in the import scrap segment. As a result, the mills’ purchase prices are currently set at $262-265/mt CPT with only one mill out of the five buyers in the region keeping its purchase prices stable. Market sources expect details of fresh import scrap bookings to be disclosed shorlty, which will make the whole market picture a bit clearer. While the scrap price uptrend is foreseen to continue for now, finished steel demand is not active enough to support it for long, SteelOrbis understands.
