Turkish mills’ local scrap purchase prices mostly stable

Domestic scrap purchase prices have mostly stabilized in Turkey, following the cautious optimism in the import segment. In particular, the latest two deals for ex-US scrap have been closed at a stable level in Turkey, resulting in upward expectations voiced by some players. As a result, in the local market only a few steel producers have decreased their purchase prices, reducing them by TRY 20-30/mt depending on the scrap grade and buyer, which translates to a drop of $3-5/mt in prices on US dollar basis. Sources do not expect any further fall in domestic prices, but the trend will mostly depend on the import situation, SteelOrbis understands. It is worth mentioning that Koc Metalurji has stopped placing orders for scrap in the local market as of September 28 due its scheduled maintenance.
