Turkish mills’ local scrap procurement prices remain stable

As Turkey’s import scrap prices rebounded slightly this week, Turkish mills have kept their domestic scrap prices stable. Just one producer has increased its prices by TRY 500-1,500/mt or $12-37/mt week on week. Turkish mills try to get better efficiency from domestic scrap as they try to limit the uptrend potential of import scrap quotations. Unless import scrap segment moves up further, local scrap prices in Turkey are expected to move sideways.

As a result, the general range in the local Turkish scrap market for the benchmark DKP grade scrap has moved up very slightly on the lower end by TRY  50/mt to TRY 12,150-13,230/mt. Due to the slight depreciation of the lira, the dollar-based quotations have moved down by a mere $1/mt on the upper end to $314-342/mt.
